How beta-glucan actually lowers LDL
Beta-glucan is a soluble fiber that forms a thick, viscous gel in the digestive tract. That gel binds bile acids, which are made from cholesterol — forcing the liver to pull more cholesterol out of the bloodstream to replace them. Clinical trials using 3-4 grams per day of intact, high-molecular-weight beta-glucan show LDL reductions around 5.5-6.5%.1
Molecular weight is the hidden variable
The gel-forming, LDL-lowering effect depends heavily on beta-glucan's molecular weight and how much of it stays intact through processing.
